Gold River, Strathcona RD
Tsuxwin Viewpoint is a roadside scenic stop on Highway 28, about 94.5 km from Campbell River and approximately 7 km from Gold River, in the central part of Vancouver Island. The viewpoint looks into the Gold River Canyon and toward the surrounding forested mountains, with Tsuxwin Falls cascading down the rocky landscape nearby.
The waterfall is particularly impressive during spring runoff and after periods of heavy rain, when the increased water flow creates a much stronger cascade. Tsuxwin Falls includes upper and lower sections, with the upper falls located close to the highway and the lower section dropping toward the Gold River.
The main viewpoint has a roadside pullout and a carved Indigenous wooden sculpture adding a distinctive cultural and artistic element to the roadside stop while travelling between Campbell River and Gold River.
The waterfall and canyon can be viewed without a long hike, although conditions around waterfalls and rivers can be slippery and change with water levels.
Best Time to Visit: Spring and after periods of rainfall, when water flow is generally stronger
Distance: Approximately 7 km from Gold River
Parking: Roadside pullout at the viewpoint
