Sooke, Capital RD
The Sooke Arts Council invites the community to celebrate Canada’s Culture Days with Beach Art at Whiffin Spit. Participants are encouraged to let their creativity flow by building art installations along the shoreline using natural, beach-found materials. Please note: nothing may be brought from home, and nothing may be picked from living plants or the surrounding environment. All creations must be made solely from materials already found on the beach while respecting environmentally sensitive areas. Pre-registration is now available online at sookearts.com/beachart. Otherwise come on down 30 mins before the event and register onsite. And cash prizes will be awarded. This year’s event also features live music from local Sooke band Bodeus.
Adding to the experience, Sooke Harbour House is opening its grounds for the afternoon, offering casual seating and an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the gardens. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the Bakery Window and onsite restaurant. “Being part of the community and supporting local events is important. It’s about being good neighbours,” said Antoine Gay, Sooke Harbour House Front of House Manager.
“Beach Art has become a local highlight, combining creativity, community, and the stunning natural backdrop of Whiffin Spit. We’re thrilled to welcome Bodeus to provide live music, and grateful to Sooke Harbour House for their hospitality in making this day even more special,” adds Event Organizer Lynda Slater.
