The annual South Island Powwow in Victoria, now in its fourth year, brings together the representations of the First Nations of Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea, along with local residents and guests, for a celebration of cultural diversity, the heritage of the past, and the honouring of the future. Powwow unites traditional dances, drums, songs, and the bright regalia of participants in the atmosphere of a great family gathering under the open sky, where visitors can also explore artisan markets, enjoy traditional foods, and feel the warm spirit of community. Powwow is a reminder of the strength of cultural traditions and a testament to their resilience, an expression of the power of unity in diversity, and an act of honouring the pride of the Indigenous peoples of this land, with whom the First Nations are one.
