Beneath the peaks, in forest chill, and ocean’s softest sigh —
a home for hearts, a place to live, to dream, to thrive.
The year coming to an end has been a special one. In 2025, we officially launched VanIsland.life — the online media platform of the Island Galician Society, created to connect people, places, and stories of Vancouver Island.
The Beginning of VanIsland.life
We have been preparing for this moment for several years. We designed and redesigned the website multiple times, refining every detail — from functionality to visual identity — until it fully aligned with our goals, standards, and values.
We began building our core content long before the official launch, adding hundreds of locations to the site’s database, each with detailed descriptions and high-quality, original artistic photography.
We also developed a guide with a unique integrated filter that allows users to quickly and precisely find places, events, and routes by location, date, and category.
In the final months before launch, we worked in test mode — covering events, publishing news and reports — so that we could begin officially as a fully functioning publication.
Territorial Acknowledgement
Today, as we summarize the results of our work for the first time, we wish first and foremost to express our respect, gratitude, and acknowledgement of all the First Nations of Vancouver Island, on whose traditional lands we live, work, and travel:
Tlatlasikwala, Gwa’sala-Nakwaxda’xw, Kwakiutl, Quatsino, Namgis, Da'naxda'xw (Awaetlala), Kwikwasut'inuxw Hax'wamis, Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' (Kyoquot), Wei Wai Kum, We Wai Kai (Cape Mudge), Ehattesaht, Nuchatlaht, Homalco, K’ómoks, Mowachaht/Muchalaht, Qualicum, Hesquiaht, Tseshaht, Hupačasath, Nanoose (Snaw-naw-as), Ahousaht, Snuneymuxw, Tla-o-qui-aht, Lyackson, Stz'uminus, Chemainus, Uchucklesaht, Penelakut, Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ (Ucluelet), Toquaht, Halalt, Ts’uubaa-asatx (Lake Cowichan), Ditidaht, Huu-ay-aht, Cowichan, Tseycum, Pauquachin, Malahat, Tsawout, Tsartlip, Pacheedaht, Songhees, Esquimalt, T’Sou-ke, Scia’new (Beecher Bay).
Their deep connection to the land and their responsible stewardship of nature and cultural heritage inspire us in our daily work.
Our Principles
We believe that the true value of media lies in uncompromising accuracy, strict adherence to journalistic standards, and tangible benefit to society. We declare and guarantee that these core principles will remain our constant guide.
That is why every location description in our guide is entirely original work — carefully researched information, our own texts, and unique high-quality photographs created specifically for VanIsland.life.
When publishing news, we do not reprint content - we always seek primary sources, verify facts, and work exclusively with reliable information.
And our special features are not just a few images — they are complete stories, built on experience, observation, deep immersion, and real presence at the scene.
Looking Ahead Together
In 2026, we aim to continue growing together with you. We already have many ideas and projects in development that we sincerely hope to bring to life with your support — not only new guides and routes, but also original series in new formats that will make VanIsland.life even more useful and engaging.
Meanwhile, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that one of the key features available to registered readers is the ability to create their own personalized routes in their profile bookmarks — lists of places and events. This is a unique feature that allows users to plan trips, save interesting locations, and essentially create their own map of the island. We will continue improving these tools to make them even more intuitive, flexible, and helpful.
We also wish to emphasize that VanIsland.life is not a traditional commercial media outlet.
There is no excessive advertising on the site — no aggressive banners or pop-ups. Advertising placements are strictly limited and always thematically and geographically relevant.
Our publication exists thanks to reader support — your donations, partnerships with local organizations and businesses, and a small number of carefully selected thematic banners.
It is your support that allows us to remain independent, continue developing, and do what we believe brings real value to the Island, its residents, and its visitors.
VanIsland — this is for life
So, in closing, we invite you to collaborate with us:
- Local businesses — to advertise and develop partnership projects
- Community organizations — to submit announcements and news important to the public
- Readers — to support us through donations that allow us to remain independent and grow without compromise
Thank you to everyone who has been with us during these first months of work. We sincerely believe that the number of our monthly unique readers will soon grow from the current several tens of thousands to several hundred thousand — after all, our Island is home to around 900,000 residents and welcomes approximately 3 million visitors each year.
And finally, we wish you an inspired New Year 2026 — filled with love, inner calm, new discoveries, positive change, and warm encounters on our beloved Island and within our pages at VanIsland.life.
