The West Bay Walkway is a scenic waterfront trail that serves as the final, picturesque segment of the larger Songhees Walkway system. Developed in 1980 as a joint project between the Provincial Capital Commission and the City of Victoria, this shoreline path beautifully bridges the community of Esquimalt with Victoria West. To get there, head to the lower end of Head Street near the West Bay Marina. A small parking lot for a few cars can be found at 537 Head Street, putting you right at the western trailhead.
Because the entire route is paved or consists of a well-maintained wooden boardwalk, it provides a barrier-free, fully accessible experience for walkers, strollers, and wheelchairs alike. The walkway is lined with benches and rest stops, creating a spectacular 2.9-kilometre waterfront path—perfect for a morning walk or a scenic evening stroll at sunset.
