Sooke, Capital RD
Grant's Mill, established in 1849 by Captain Walter Colquhoun Grant, was one of the first water-powered sawmills on Vancouver Island. Located near Veitch Creek at the eastern end of the Sooke Inlet, the mill utilized the creek's waterfalls for power. Today, the exact site of the mill is marked by a historic plaque erected by the Sooke Region Historical Society, situated close to the Galloping Goose Trail near Hutchinson Cove.
A beautiful wooden bridge spans Veitch Creek near the historic site, providing visitors with a scenic spot to enjoy the surroundings and reflect on the area's history. Nearby, a picturesque waterfall cascades down the rocky terrain, offering a tranquil setting and a reminder of the natural power once harnessed by the mill.
