The Regier Theatre

In the heart of downtown Courtenay, the Regier Theatre blends history with culture in a truly unique way. First opened in 1938 as a church designed by architect William Hagarty, the building’s ivy-covered walls, steep roofline, and tall steeple still stand as distinctive landmarks today.

Originally known as the Old Church Theatre, it was restored and transformed into a performance venue instead of being lost to demolition. In 2025, it was renamed the Regier Theatre, honouring Beryl and Gene Regier, whose vision and dedication helped preserve the space.

With seating for about 200 guests, the theatre provides an intimate atmosphere, making every performance feel personal—whether it’s a local play, a jazz concert, or a touring act.
