Throughout one weekend each year in Sidney, the doors open to a world of fairies as the halls of the Mary Winspear Centre transform into a realm of imagination, colour, and fantasy during Faerie & Fantasy Faire. Inspired by this year’s theme, “Hooves & Horns,” visitors arrived in creative costumes — from fairies and woodland spirits to horned creatures known from folklore and fantasy. The surroundings quickly filled with wings, flowing fabrics, and handmade details.
 Among the beloved fairy characters appearing throughout the event were Faerie Godmother Rachael, Mermaid Sirena, and Fairy Queen Lolly, alongside the enchanting Van Isle Mermaids, delighting guests and offering memorable photo opportunities. In addition to the fairy characters, the event featured live battle demonstrations showcasing authentic medieval combat in steel armor and opportunities for attendees to take part in sword training. A guided archery range was offered by the Pacific Archery Academy, while living history displays of pre-17th century arts and sciences were presented by the Barony of Seagirt. Live entertainment and interactive activities added to the sense of wonder throughout the weekend. Performances and appearances included Gypsy6irl Bellydance, Hounds of Cuchulain, La Yeni, Molly Moon, Island Circus, Starchild & The Mystiques, and Henrietta Dubet. Visitors could also take part in Wizards’ Workshops presented by The Hermit's Path A Metaphysical Shoppe, adding hands-on moments to the magical atmosphere, including the whimsical “Storytime with Professor McComical: Wacky Wonders of Wizardry” presented by Jan Streader.
 Throughout the event, local artists and makers showcased fantasy-inspired creations — from jewellery and costume accessories to artwork and decorative pieces — offering visitors a chance to discover handmade treasures and connect with creators from across Vancouver Island.
 Over the years, Fairy and Fantasy Faire has become a cult gathering place for a vibrant community of fantasy enthusiasts — and perhaps even for real fairies said to wander among mortals on this enchanted Island of Eternal Spring.
