Fort Rodd Hill is a 19th-century coastal artillery fort overlooking Esquimalt Harbour, built to defend Canada’s west coast from naval attack. Constructed in the 1890s and used through World War II, the site is now a National Historic Site where visitors can explore gun batteries, underground magazines, guardhouses, and barracks that once housed soldiers.
Fort Rodd Hill is also the entry point to Fisgard Lighthouse, connected by a short scenic path. Together, they offer one of the best historic and coastal experiences on southern Vancouver Island.
