The small village on the southern tip of Vancouver Island has long been a gathering place for some of British Columbia’s most talented ceramic artists. The annual Fired Up! ceramics show and sale opened on Saturday, May 30, at the historic Metchosin Community Hall and continues through Sunday, May 31. This year’s 42nd exhibition explores the theme “Ebb and Flow,” inviting visitors to reflect on the constant transformation of nature and the enduring cycles of rise and decline that shape our world.
Local and guest artists are showcasing a wide range of works, from finely crafted functional pottery to decorative pieces and original sculptural creations. Visitors have the opportunity not only to admire the artists’ artistic craftsmanship but also to purchase unique handmade works directly from their creators.
The diversity of styles, techniques, and artistic approaches on display is remarkable, making it difficult to single out any one participant. Nevertheless, several exhibits particularly caught the attention of our photojournalist. We invite you to take a look at some of the freshly fired gems of this year’s Fired Up! exhibition.
