Abkhazi Garden is a stunning heritage garden located in the Fairfield neighbourhood of Victoria. Known as “the garden that love built,” it was created in 1946 by Prince Nicolas Abkhazi and Princess Marjorie (Peggy) Abkhazi, who settled in Victoria after surviving internment during World War II.
The couple designed the garden on a rocky slope, skillfully blending native Garry oaks, dramatic rock formations, and winding paths with carefully selected rhododendrons, Japanese maples, and other shade-loving plants. The result is a peaceful and elegant space that reflects their love story and artistic vision.
At the heart of the garden is the Teahouse at Abkhazi Garden, located inside the Abkhazi’s original heritage home. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea, light lunches, and baked goods made from local, seasonal ingredients. The teahouse offers both indoor seating and outdoor tables with views of the garden. A small gift shop inside sells artisan goods and garden-themed souvenirs. Reservations are recommended, especially in spring and summer.
