Summer McIntosh sets three world records at Saanich Pool

Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh delivered a breathtaking performance on Vancouver Island last week, shattering three individual long-course world records during the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials at Saanich Commonwealth Place.

World Records in Three Races:

  • 400m freestyle – McIntosh led off the meet on June 8 with a stunning time of 3:54.18, eclipsing the previous world standard of 3:55.38 set by Australia's Ariarne Titmus in 2023
  • 200m individual medley – On June 10, she broke Hungary's Katinka Hosszu's decade-old record, finishing in 2:05.70, down from 2:06.12
  • 400m individual medley – Finally, on June 12, McIntosh swam 4:23.65, slicing 0.73 seconds off her previous record (4:24.38)

In doing so, McIntosh became the first swimmer since Michael Phelps in 2008 to break three different individual long-course world records in a single meet, and the first woman to do so since Inge de Bruijn in 2000.

Also, with this trio of world records, the total number of records set at Saanich Commonwealth Place has climbed to 11, affirming its status as a renowned site for elite swim performance.
