Craigdarroch Castle is a National Historic Site located in Victoria’s Rockland neighbourhood. Built between 1887 and 1890 for coal baron Robert Dunsmuir, the castle is a four-storey Victorian-era mansion known for its detailed woodwork, stained glass windows, and period architecture.
Today, the restored building operates as a historic house museum. Visitors can explore multiple floors of exhibits showcasing original features, heritage furnishings, and interpretive displays about the Dunsmuir family and Victoria’s industrial history. The upper levels offer views over the city and toward the Olympic Mountains. A variety of events and workshops are also organized throughout the year.
The castle is fully accessible by stairs only, as there is no elevator. Entry is ticketed, and hours vary seasonally.
