Victoria, Capital RD
Ross Bay Villa is a meticulously restored historic landmark located in Victoria’s Fairfield neighbourhood. Built in 1865 for Francis Roscoe, a Member of Parliament and local businessman, the villa is a rare example of a 19th-century colonial cottage, renowned for its authentic Victorian interiors, original wallpaper, and period-appropriate gardens.
Today, the building operates as a volunteer-run historic house museum. Unlike many modern restorations, the Villa is a "living laboratory" of conservation, where visitors can see original 1860s stencil work and furnishings that reflect the daily life of a middle-class family in early British Columbia. The site serves as a testament to grassroots heritage preservation.
The Villa is open for guided tours on specific days, primarily on Saturdays. Entry is ticketed, and because it is run by a non-profit society, all proceeds go directly toward the ongoing restoration and maintenance of the site.
