The Chinese Cemetery at Harling Point is a National Historic Site located along Dallas Road in Victoria. Established in 1903, it served the city’s Chinese community at a time when burial in other local cemeteries was restricted.

The cemetery contains traditional Chinese grave markers, many with inscriptions in Chinese characters. Traditionally, individuals buried here were laid to rest temporarily. After approximately seven years, their remains were exhumed and prepared for shipment back to ancestral villages in China. The shipment of crates of bones continued until 1949, when the establishment of the People’s Republic of China made this practice no longer possible.

The site was officially designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1995, recognizing its historical and cultural significance and the important contributions of Chinese Canadians in British Columbia. The cemetery also offers a clear view toward the Trial Islands.
