St. Ann’s Academy National Historic Site is a restored 19th-century convent and school located in downtown Victoria. Originally established in the 1858 by the Sisters of St. Ann, the site grew into one of the most important Catholic educational institutions in the region and played a major role in the early social and cultural development of Victoria.
The complex includes a beautifully preserved chapel, heritage classroom spaces, and restored gardens set within one of the last remaining large green spaces in the city core. The grounds feature mature trees, formal landscaping, and open lawns that contrast with the surrounding urban environment.
Today, St. Ann’s Academy operates as a National Historic Site, offering a quiet public space for walking, reflection, and heritage appreciation. It is also used for cultural events and guided tours that explore the history of education, religion, and community life in early British Columbia.
