The Province of British Columbia is investing nearly $2.2 million to upgrade four regional airports across Vancouver Island, improving access and supporting economic development, tourism, and emergency services. These upgrades are funded through the B.C. Air Access Program (BCAAP), which supports airports with fewer than one million annual passengers.
This is part of a $6.2 million province-wide initiative supporting 16 airports across B.C. The goal is to ensure that even small, remote communities benefit from reliable, safe air travel — whether for tourism, wildfire response, medical transport, or daily life.
Funded Projects:
Comox Valley Airport (YQQ): Receives $2 million to expand its runway apron, helping accommodate more aircraft operations and future growth.
Nanaimo Airport (YCD): Gets $74,700 for vital lighting and electrical system upgrades.
Courtenay Airpark (YCA): Will see $66,300 invested to rehabilitate its runway and taxiway as essential infrastructure for general aviation.
Alert Bay Airport (YAL): Awarded $35,000 to develop a facility master plan supporting long-term infrastructure goals.
